WELCOME & HOMEPAGE

WELCOME

...to the website of Gainsborough United Reformed Church. We meet for worship on Sundays at 10.30am in our church on Church Street, Gainsborough. Our aim is to be a church at the heart of the community of Gainsborough, showing God’s love for everyone.

WHO WE ARE

We are a mixed congregation, diverse in age, culture and church background. Over recent years we have seen small but steady growth and believe this reflects our commitment to being an inclusive church. We offer a warm welcome to everyone, whoever you are and wherever you are on your spiritual journey.

We are part of the United Reformed Church. 68,000 people make up 1500 United Reformed Church congregations in England, Scotland and Wales. The United Reformed Church has roots in four Protestant traditions: Congregationalism, Presbyterianism, Churches of Christ and the Congregational Union of Scotland.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe that through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we have received a unique revelation of God’s love. God continues to be at work in us and in our world today. We base our faith on the teaching of the Bible as discerned through the help of the Holy Spirit. In the words of John Robinson, spoken as the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for America, we believe that “the Lord hath yet more light and truth to break forth from his word.”

WHAT WE DO

As a United Reformed Church we subscribe to the Five Marks of Mission endorsed in 1997 by Churches Together in England. So in our life together we aspire to do the following:

to tell the good news of the kingdom;
to teach, baptise and nurture new believers;
to tend by responding to human need by loving service;
to transform unjust structures of society; and
to treasure God’s creation
